Homeless Keiki Summer Camp
The Christmas Wish program, a volunteer-run organization serving homelss keiki, is offering a summer camp that expands the minds of homeless children and offers a unique approach to teaching life skills. Our award winning program supports a well rounded educational program for children 4-7 years old. We have a Day Camp for ages 3-7 on July 6th - 14th and a Sleepover Camp for ages 4-7 on July 18th- 22nd. There are several volunteer opportunities related to these camps for both those that are on or are willing to travel to the Big Island and those not on the Big Island.
Collections Volunteers – May 21, 3:30 – 6:30pm (on Oahu)
Our last fundraiser of the season to support the camps will be our last chance to provide 75 poverty stricken keiki the opportunity to have hands on learning experiments and fun activities. We need your kokua during this collection to assure our keiki have a fun and educational summer. We provide snacks and refreshments, you provide the time and energy. We will meet at Kapolei Shopping Center in the parking lot at the entrance of the Safeway/Tesoro station. The empty lot on the right side across from Tesoro at the corner on the hill.
Teen Mentoring Summer Camp for Homeless Keiki – July 15-23, Hilo
Ages 14-18 (High school students enrolled in 9th-12th grade.)
Project Hawai'i Edu-Camp is a teen mentoring summer camp that expands the minds of homeless children and offers a unique approach to teaching life skills. This is a unique opportunity for teens to participate volunteering hands on with homeless keiki in an educational summer camp setting. Teens will be interacting with the camp buddy from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily, then have teen activities in the evening before bed. Teens will need to arrive on July 15th at the HILO International Airport (anytime is fine), and depart from Hilo on 23rd after 10 a.m.
Activity Sponsors (for those not on the Big Island)
This is a position for those who may NOT be on the Island and would still like to help. We are looking for volunteers who are able to put together a project of your choice, and then send it to us for the campers. All projects need to be "ready to go" for the camper to participate. For example: if you are donating an art project, please have all the pieces needed and place them in individual baggies, etc so we can distribute one to each child and know that all the peices needed are enclosed and ready to go. Please also provide step by step instructions that the teen mentors can follow for the project.
You can use your imagination and creativity to add to the keiki fun filled days.
We need the following amount for each age groups:
15 packets for 3 & 4 yrs. (day camp)
15 packets for 5-7 yrs. (day camp)
30 packets for 4-7 (sleepover camp)
